What it is for
A student who is old enough, in the school's view, can sign in and read their own record. The portal opens on "Your record" under the caption "Student portal". A student sees only their own facts, and sees them because they are the subject of the record, so the school does not ask which parent role they hold.
The acceptable use policy
A student who has not agreed to the policy sees only the policy. It says, "Your school wrote this. Read it, then say you agree to it." The student presses "I agree" and then reads "Thank you. You can read this again at any time." After agreeing the page says "You have agreed to this version." When the school publishes a new version, each student is asked again; a correction asks no-one.
A school may set another agreement to close a student's portal the same way. The student then reads it beside the policy, ticks it and presses "Accept what I ticked" before their record opens. A student reads each agreement the school asks of them at "Agreements" in the top bar.
The public page "Acceptable Use Policy for students" sets out four rules: "Keep your sign-in to yourself", "Only look at your own record", "Do not share what you read here" and "Do not attack the system".
What a student can see
| Section | What the student does |
|---|---|
| Student details | Reads their own details. |
| Timetable | Reads each day's lessons, rooms, teachers and changes. |
| Attendance | Reads their attendance. |
| Reports and Results | Reads released reports and results. |
| Subject selection | Chooses subjects under "Choose your subjects" and presses "Send my choices". |
| Wellbeing | Reads "House points", "Merits and notes", "Sanctions" and "My goals". With nothing shared the page says "Nothing shared with you yet". |
| Activities | Reads their teams, events, results and trips. |
| Forms and requests | Fills in forms the school offers and sees where each stands. |
| School news, Messages and School links | Reads what the school has published. |
A student does not see "Your contact details", "Consents", "Applications" or "Medical details". Those belong to the parents.
