Part 2. Journeys
2.6 A medical event
A sick bay visit, a dose given, a case followed, a student sent home and the roll that shows it.

What this journey achieves
A child is unwell or hurt during the day. This journey follows the response from the teacher who knows what the child needs, through sick bay, to the roll that tells each teacher where the child is.
The nurse does most of the recording. A teacher reads the health alert on the student's page before acting, and later reads on the roll that the child was sent home. The front office tells the family when the nurse asks it to.
The steps in order
- Teacher
Open the student's page and read the alerts and the action plan on the "Health and wellbeing" tab. A student with a plan, such as for anaphylaxis, shows an alert line beside their name.

In Sick bay, choose "Record a visit". Choose the child, say what they are "Presented with" and the "Treatment", and where it was an incident give the "Hazard" and "Severity". Choose "Record the visit".

Open Medications and choose "Give a dose" on the line due. Name who witnessed it, and choose "Add to the log". A dose that was not given is recorded as such, with the reason.

An injury or illness that needs following becomes a case. Choose "Open a case" on the visit, give a "Summary" and choose "Open the case". The case page lists its visits and what is overdue.

Things to watch for
What happens next
An open case stays on the Health centre page until it is closed, and a follow-up that is past its due time and not done reads as overdue. Plans due for review are listed together, and the camp pack for an excursion draws on the same records.
